WAV file size and transcription
- Uncompressed WAV is large. CD-quality stereo (44.1 kHz, 16-bit) is about 10 MB per minute, so the 2 GB limit holds a little over three hours; 48 kHz, 24-bit stereo is about 17 MB per minute, or just under two hours.
- You're charged by the recording's length, not its size, so there's no cost penalty for uploading WAV instead of MP3.
- Higher sample rates don't improve accuracy, because speech models resample audio to 16 kHz. If an upload is slow, a mono MP3 or M4A export gives the same transcript from a much smaller file.
- For multitrack sessions, upload a mixdown of the conversation rather than each track separately.

Which WAV files are supported?
Common WAV variants work, including 16-bit, 24-bit and 32-bit float at any standard sample rate, in mono or stereo.
Is there a size limit?
Yes, 2 GB per file. For longer recordings, export a compressed MP3 or M4A, which transcribes just as accurately.
How are minutes counted?
By the recording's length. A 20-minute WAV uses about 20 minutes, whatever its file size.
Do you store my recordings?
No. Files are processed in memory and deleted immediately after transcription, and transcripts aren't stored on our servers.
